Job Title: Driver

Reports Directly To:

The driver will report directly to Dispatch and/or Operations in daily operations. As a driver it is your responsibility to direct requests and tasks to your designated team. Unless unsafe, then refusal of the task is permitted.

Job Overview:

As an Ellis Driver, your primarily role will be responsible for leading your crew to provide an efficient and accurate relocation for Ellis’ clients. As part of the crew lead you will also be responsible for disassembly, packing, wrapping, loading, unloading, unpacking and reassembly of contents as well as support to crew leaders. Contents can include, but are not limited to boxes, furniture, art, personal collections and speciality items. You will be part of a hard-working team who relocates possessions after people have confirmed their required relocation services. Hours may vary anywhere between 2 hours up to 13+ hours, including long distance travel and overnight trips out of town.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • As a key member of your crew, it is required to load and unload large and heavy items into and from trucks in and out of residences and/or commercial properties. These tasks will be performed by the use heavy lifting and carrying, as well as industry equipment such as dollies and hand carts.
  • Your ability to dismantle and reassemble furniture as required, effectively wrapping furniture that will not fit into a carton, as this will reduce potential claims.
  • Personal belongings and items that fit in a carton must be packed properly in the appropriate carton to effectively relocate all items move and prevent damage.
  • Participate as directed in the following activities:
    • Maintaining vehicles in a serviceable condition, to ensure all safety measures are compliant and up to date. This includes completion of daily pre-trips/post-trips and driver logs when applicable.
    • Maintaining vehicles in clean serviceable condition. This includes the cleanliness of the outside and organization of equipment and materials in the box of the truck.
    • Removing and disposing of debris from company vehicles into designated area. These items can be separated into the garbage bin and or cardboard recycling bin by the scale.

 

    • Maintaining equipment and sanitize as necessary. Especially during covid-19 protocol all equipment must be sanitized. If a wheel needs to be replaced then this needs to be tagged defective and not used to prevent any unnecessary property damage and or personal injury.
    • Completed Ellis forms pertaining to each specific Job. Work orders must be accurate and legible. If an amendment or waiver is required, it is the driver’s responsibility to the obtain acceptance from the client by signing the appropriate documentation.
  • Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines. Many times, ferries must be caught, and/or delivery deadlines must be met to ensure company profitability.
  • Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information
  • Will practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite and warehousing area
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of vehicles and equipment
  • Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job to the appropriate person
  • All employees must attend all Ellis meetings and reviews, so current Ellis policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements are known and practice by all members of Ellis.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to complete and pass a background check
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licences (or Class 3 for Truck 9)

Education level:

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate preferred

The swamper will report directly to Driver/Crew leader when on site and Dispatch/ and/or Operations in daily operations. As a swamper it is your responsibility to carry out the requests and tasks determined by the crew leader. Unless unsafe, then refusal of the task is permitted.
