Meet Mark Hirschi — Owner & Operator, Ellis Moving & Storage

My name is Mark Hirschi, and I am the owner and operator of Ellis Moving & Storage.

I came to this business as someone who had already spent years in the moving industry — most notably as owner of Salmon’s Moving and Storage in Richmond, BC, one of British Columbia’s longest-established moving companies, founded in 1913 and affiliated with Atlas Van Lines. I understand what it takes to run a moving company with integrity. I also understand what it costs a family when a move goes wrong.

When the opportunity arose to acquire Ellis Moving & Storage in August 2025, I saw something worth building on: a company with a genuine reputation in North Vancouver, a crew that cared about the work, and a community that had trusted the Ellis name for over four decades. What I also saw was a company ready to become something more — more professional, more modern, and more capable of serving the North Shore the way this community deserves.

That is what we are building. The Ellis name stays. The commitment to this neighbourhood stays. And the standard of care gets raised.

Family first, faith first — the values behind the business

Outside of Ellis and Salmon’s, I am a husband to Karla and father to three children — Wolfe, Beau, and Mila — all of whom call the North Shore home. My approach to business is shaped by the same values I try to live by at home: do the work right, be honest with people, and show up when it matters most.

I am also the co-founder and host of the Movified Podcast and Movified Nation — a professional development community for moving company owners across North America — and a TEDx and public speaker. I bring that same mindset of continuous improvement and industry leadership to the way Ellis Moving & Storage operates every day.

The Ellis Moving & Storage Story — North Vancouver Since 1980

Ellis Moving & Storage was founded in North Vancouver in 1980, growing out of the same tradition of family-owned, service-first moving that has defined the best companies in this industry for generations. For over 45 years, the Ellis name has meant something on the North Shore: a crew that arrives prepared, equipment that is properly maintained, and a team that treats your belongings with the same care they would give their own.

In August 2025, Mark Hirschi acquired Ellis Moving & Storage and began a deliberate process of modernisation — introducing new operations technology, expanding the sales and coordination team, and raising the standard of every client touchpoint. The mission has not changed. The capability has grown.

Today, Ellis Moving & Storage operates seven days a week, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, serving homeowners, families, businesses, and organisations across Metro Vancouver and British Columbia.

They accommodated every one including a move on Christmas Eve day. Their staff were pleasant and worked quickly. There was minor damage incurred (not unexpected given the size of our move) and Ellis remedied the situation above and beyond what the contract amount was. January 2025 I engaged Ellis Moving & Storage for a second time. Just as before, their crew of Everson, Bernard, and AJ did a perfect job of moving my things from Penticton to White Rock. The crew arrived early in the morning, loaded within the hour, and delivered the next day. All three worked steadily--no standing around staring at their phones. I don't know what these guys eat for breakfast, but it must contain dynamite as they work fast but carefully. I tipped them and asked where they'd like to drive next (for my next move). They said, "Mexico", but I'm not so sure about that. I left Penticton because of the heat. Great job guys, plus a thank you to office staff Donna, Shawn, and James for making my move stress free.

We have moved from North Vancouver to West Kelowna in December and hired Ellis Moving & Storage. We would recommend this company to everyone who is looking to move with the least amount of stress you can have during a move.Right from the first interaction until the smiling waving lead hand Everson Blucher leaving our new home.Moving out day went very smoothly all that was needed from us was to show Everson through the house to show him his accesses. He then asked us what our favourite chairs were to sit in and said please relax we have got it from here. Amazingly, 6 hours later they were loaded and done. Even with moving the truck to the alley to load my business tools and then moving back to the front of the house to accommodate us to be able to in our favourite chairs until the very last 2 items to be loaded. He said now when we see you tomorrow the first things we move into your new home will be your favourite chairs to sit in. Awesome!We then went through the house and noticed some damage to the hardwood floor that had happened during the day. He immediately had pictures of it sent to the head of the company and within 24 hours they had it repaired without any issues. THAT’S SERVICE you can count on, a very professional response to what would have been so stressful to no worries at all in one phone call.I knew this company from being a condominium manager for years and out of all the moving companies that came through the condos I looked after Ellis Moving & Storage was always very professional and easy to deal with. A few days before the big move we were in the precarious situation of having to rebook a new moving company with short notice. A big shout out to the team at Ellis Moving who helped us move from North Vancouver to Coquitlam last week. The office staff were friendly and helpful throughout our dealings with them.On the day of the move, the team of three were punctual, efficient, and professional. We particularly appreciated how they carefully wrapped each piece of furniture (not all movers do that!!) and then carried everything (no dollies) up the stairs at our new townhouse. The guys worked non-stop in 37+C and really made this move less stressful and more organized. We would definitely recommend Ellis Moving!
